Somerset Strikes Early, Holds Off Barnstormers

Lancaster Stormers News Release
Early fielding errors and a couple of baserunning slipups on the same play cost the Lancaster Barnstormers in an 8-6 loss to the Somerset Patriots Wednesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Anderson Feliz fumbled Scott Cousins' grounder to his right to open the second inning. Following a walk to David Vidal, Greg Hopkins placed a bunt to the third base side of the mound. Dan Osterbrock (3-5) fired to first, where both Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Wilson Batista were scrambling to cover the bag, and the ball ended up in foul territory down the line as Cousins scored the first run, and the Patriots were left with runners at second and third.
Michael Burgess lined out to Batista at second, but Robert Andino ripped a double over third base to drive home two runs for a 3-0 lead, and Aharon Eggleston produced another with a single to right field as the Pats grabbed a 4-0 edge.
The Barnstormers spent the remainder of the evening chasing the carrot.
Two unearned runs scored off Patriots starter Sean Bierman (6-1) in the fourth, but the Patriots came right back to score in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Hopkins.
Thomas Neal belted a two-run homer in the seventh off reliever Bryan Morgado, and Hopkins added another for an 8-2 lead.
Again, the Barnstormers battled. Luke Hughes and Brandon Jones stroked consecutive one-out singles in the seventh. Hughes scored on the next play when Hopkins, trying to complete a double play, stripped the ball loose from his glove and flung it backwards into center.
Cavazos-Galvez slugged a homer to left in the eighth, and Feliz lined a two-run shot onto the picnic deck in the ninth off reliever Kyler Newby, leaving Lancaster two short.
Those two runs were on base in the sixth inning. Jerry Owens singled, and Batista doubled, giving the Barnstormers two runners in scoring position with nobody out.
Kevin Rivers went down swinging for the first out. Cavazos-Galvez hit a one-hopper back to Bierman. Owens had broken toward the plate and was caught in a rundown. Bierman charged after him and flipped to catcher Adam Donachie, who applied the tag. Cavazos-Galvez made a wide turn at first in case Owens stayed in a lengthy rundown, then slipped and fell trying to get back. Donachie fired down to Neal, who chased after the trailing runner, tagging him out for a bizarre 1-2-3 double play.
Bryan Woodall (1-4) will make the start for the Barnstormers on Thursday evening as the series and homestand conclude. He will be opposed by right-hander Mickey Storey, who will re-sign with the Patriots for the start. Storey had made four starts for Class AA Tulsa (Dodgers) after going 4-0 with Somerset to start the season.
NOTES: Lancaster released Osterbrock after the game...He had lost four starts in a row...Nelson had three hits on the night and is now one away from tying longtime Camden Rivershark Brad Strauss for fifth place on the all-time Atlantic League hits list with 889...Kevin Rivers extended his hitting streak to six games with an infield single in the third...The homer by Cavazos-Galvez was the first by a Barnstormer to left field at Clipper Magazine Stadium this season.
