Lancaster Stormers News Release
Somerset's sixth inning included a number of ingredients.
There were two doubles, two singles, two walks, two errors and one sacrifice fly.
Altogether, they added up to five runs as the Patriots broke a 3-3 tie and went on to defeat the visiting Lancaster Barnstormers, 8-3, Tuesday evening at TD Bank Park.
Nate Reed (0-1) walked David Vidal to open the inning. Nate Spears and Robert Andino followed with consecutive ground singles, and Vidal was able to score when the Andino base hit was bobbled in left by Kevin Rivers.
Pete Andrelczyk took over and got Greg Hopkins to ground into a force at third for the first out. James Skelton doubled to left to drive in another run for a 5-3 edge. Jonny Tucker delivered Hopkins with a sacrifice fly, and Skelton scored when catcher Keith Castillo tried to double him up at third and threw the ball down the third base line.
A final run scored when Aharon Eggleston walked and rode home on Thomas Neal's double into the right field corner.
The Barnstormers grabbed an early lead when Blake Gailen singled home Yusuke Kajimoto with an unearned run in the first. They went ahead, 2-0, in the third when Kevin Rivers doubled inside the first base bag, went to third on an infield out and scored when Tyler Bortnick lined a single over Hopkins' head at third. Lancaster would go on to load the bases, but Sean Bierman (1-1) induced a double play ground ball out of Castillo.
Somerset tied the game in the home third when Jonny Tucker doubled home a pair and went ahead on Chris Marrero's line drive homer to left in the fourth.
Lancaster knotted the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Dan Coury.
The two clubs meet again on Wednesday evening. Matt Packer (2-1) gets the start for Lancaster against right-hander Mickey Storey (2-0). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Coury has knocked in six runs in his last six games...He played first base for the first time as a Barnstormer after David Cooper signed with the New York Mets and Henry Wrigley headed back to California to nurse an ailing back...Brian Cavazos-Galvez extended a hitting streak to six games and has now batted safely in 12 of 13...Blake Gailen drew three walks and has 12 for the year.
