Somerset Patriots Pitcher Edwin Quirarte Signed by San Francisco Giants Organization

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed pitcher Edwin Quirarte's contract has been purchased by the San Francisco Giants organization. He will report to Double-A.

Quirarte was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and four strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched in eight games for Somerset to start the 2015 season.

Quirarte has spent all seven years of his professional baseball career in the Giants organization prior to joining Somerset, reaching as high as Double-A Richmond from 2011-14.

In four years at the Double-A level, the Ventura, California native has posted an 18-15 record with a 3.45 ERA and 13 saves in 181 appearances (one start). That includes a 2.61 ERA over 56 appearances with 10 saves in 2013.

The former fifth-round pick from Cal-State Northridge owns a 3.51 ERA and 46 saves over 306 minor league appearances going into this season.

Quirarte is the first Somerset Patriots player signed by a Major League organization this season.

In other team news, the Somerset Patriots have activated right-handed pitcher David Harden from the inactive list, traded left-handed pitcher T.J. Chism to the Camden Riversharks for future considerations and released right-handed pitcher Tyler Herron.
