York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution suffered a 10-5 loss to the Camden Riversharks on Tuesday night at Campbell's Field to start off their seven-game road trip. The Revs have dropped five straight, a losing streak they'll aim to snap as the series continues in South Jersey on Wednesday night.
York grabbed a first inning run as Brandon Boggs led off with a ground-rule double to left on the second pitch of the game and scored on a two-out error for an early 1-0 lead.
Camden would answer with a quick run of their own as Dan Hennigan worked a leadoff walk, Jose Gil singled to left, and Ryan Strieby ripped an RBI double to left, tying the game at 1-1. Facing runners at second and third with still no outs, starter Corey Thurman rebounded to retire the middle third of the order in succession, limiting Camden to only the tying run.
The Riversharks took command of the game an inning later, slapping the Revs with a five-run inning, the biggest allowed by the Revs on the young season. It featured five consecutive one-out hits, including a two-run single to left from Gil and a three-run homer to left-center by Strieby, as Camden staked claim to a 6-1 lead.
York inched back, scoring in the third on a sac fly to deep left from Bryan Pounds, and again in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Willie Cabrera, trimming the deficit to 6-3.
Thurman retired eight consecutive hitters after the home run by Strieby, and had set down 10 of his last 11 batters after recording the second out in the fifth inning, but Camden would strike once more, scoring a trio of two-out runs to stem the tide. Joel Guzman stroked an RBI single to left and Carlos Guzman followed with an RBI double to right-center. The third run scored on a sharp ground ball by Nathaniel Coronado that took a tough hop off shortstop Mikey Reynolds, resulting in an error and an unearned tally.
The Revs rallied for two runs in the seventh, scoring on an RBI single by Eric Patterson and an RBI single to left-center by Pounds, but Camden would plate the final run in the bottom of the eighth on another RBI single to left field off the bat of Joel Guzman.
Thurman (1-2) suffered the loss, charged with nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits over five innings. He falls to 15-6 lifetime against the Riversharks, 8-3 at Campbell's Field.
Camden starter Ryan Kulik (2-1) picked up the win, lasting 6.1 innings while allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits.
York pitchers held the fourth and fifth hitters in Camden's lineup to a combined 0-for-10, but the second and third hitters, Gil and Strieby, combined to reach base nine out of ten times. Gil went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI while Strieby was 3-for-3 with a double, homer, four RBI and two walks, falling a triple short of the cycle. Camden racked up a total of 15 hits in the game.
The Revs tallied 13 hits, including 3-for-5 performances from Boggs and Patterson. Cabrera and Reynolds also posted multi-hit games with a pair of knocks apiece, as Reynolds extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games, the team's longest of the season.
The Revs saw their three-game road winning streak snapped with the loss.
York righty Shawn Hill (1-1, 5.25) opposes Camden southpaw Fu-Te Ni (1-0, 3.60) on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
