WALDORF, Md. - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their fifth game in their last six contests, falling to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 7-5. The Skeeters move to 9-10 on the season while Southern Maryland improves to 11-7.

Sugar Land starter Daniel Meadows gave up a solo home run to left with one out in the bottom of the second to Gustavo Molina to stake the Blue Crabs to an early 1-0 edge. The southpaw surrendered a season-high seven runs in his fourth-straight loss.

The Skeeters manufactured a run in the top of the third after back-to-back base knocks from Travis Scott and Patrick Palmeiro. Scott reached on a bloop single into left before Palmeiro extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single into right that Southern Maryland right-fielder Fred Lewis was unable to hold on to. Amadeo Zazueta dropped a sacrifice bunt down and Kevin Russo lifted a sacrifice fly into center, driving in Scott. Palmeiro was thrown out at third on the relay throw when he slid past the bag, but the run had scored to tie the game.

The Blue Crabs reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third with a pair of walks hurting Meadows. Antone DeJesus drew a walk to open the inning before advancing to second on a groundout by Renny Osuna. Zach Wilson doubled to deep right with the ball bouncing off the glove of Russo as he ranged back, plating DeJesus. Cyle Hankerd drew a walk while Wilson moved up to third on a wild pitch. Molina drove in Wilson on a sac fly to left, giving Southern Maryland a 3-1 advantage.

The Skeeters cut into the deficit in the fourth with a couple of infield singles. Beamer Weems opened up the inning with a single that stayed just fair down the third base line as the Southern Maryland defense let the ball roll, anticipating a foul ball. The shortstop moved up to second on a base hit into left from Chris Wallace. Dustin Martin grounded into a fielder's choice, but legged out the trek to first to avoid the double play. Denny Almonte rifled a line drive to shortstop, driving in Weems from third on the infield single.

Palmeiro hit his first long ball as a Skeeter on a game-tying solo shot to lead off the top of the fifth. The round-tripper was the third baseman's seventh RBI and his seventh run scored in the last 10 games.

Southern Maryland utilized the long ball in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead. After a one-out single and double put runners on the corners, Hankerd launched a ball into left for a three run home run. Molina picked up his third RBI of the night on his second home run in the game, giving the Blue Crabs a 7-3 lead.

The Skeeters squandered a golden opportunity to tie the game in the top of the sixth, despite pushing across a pair of runs. Delwyn Young singled into right center to open up the frame and Wallace reached on an error on a chopper in front of the plate that reliever Sean Keeler fired wide of first, moving both runners into scoring position. Dustin Martin extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI single into right center. After a walk to Almonte chased Keeler from the game, Trey Barham struck out Scott with the bases loaded before Palmeiro drove in his second run of the game on a single into the right field corner, cutting the score to 7-5. Sugar Land hit into a 4-6-3 double play to strand a pair of runners on base with the tying run in scoring position.

The Skeeters went down in order in the top of the ninth as Erik Hamren earned his fifth save on the season.
