Somerset Patriots pitcher Matt Carnes signed by Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Bridgewater, NJ- The Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that right-handed pitcher Matt Carnes has been signed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization.

Carnes was just named the Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month for May, where he finished with a 3-0 record, 1.82 ERA, seven earned runs, and 33 strikeouts in 34.2 innings in five games started.

Carnes spent the 2003 season with Rochester, the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. He has two seasons of Triple-A experience in the Twins organization, where he has spent his entire career.

Carnes is the third Patriots pitcher within the past week to sign with a Major League organization, joining Jason Dickson (Kansas City Royals) and Ray Beasley (Texas Rangers). He will report to the Durham Bulls, the Triple-A affiliate of the Devil Rays.

The Patriots have signed left-handed pitcher Dan Mozingo, who has experience in the Chicago White Sox and Anaheim Angels organizations. He began the 2004 season with the Arkansas Travelers, the Double-A affiliate of the Angels.

The 2004 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday, June 6th with a 1:35 pm game against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors. Sunday's game includes AAA Baseballs for the first 2,000 fans in attendance.
