Patriots send Road Warriors packing with 6-1 win

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 6-1 in front of 5,874 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon to win a season high third straight game.

The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie with a five run third inning. Second baseman Emiliano Escandon singled to right field and stole second base. Shortstop Victor Rodriguez drew a walk and designated hitter Paul Ottavinia reached on a fielder's choice and error that allowed a run to score. Right fielder Ryan Radmanovich then drove in two with a double to right field. Third baseman Jeff Nettles followed with a two run home run (2) to center field to give Somerset a 6-1 lead.

Pennsylvania took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Center fielder DaRond Stovall doubled and came around to score on an RBI single by third baseman Edgar Tovar.

Somerset answered with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ottavinia and Radmanovich singled and Nettles followed with an RBI single to tie the game 1-1.

Nettles finished the game 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI and Radmanovich finished 1 for 3 with a run and two RBI.

Patriots starter Mike Spiegel (2-0) got the win, allowing one run on four hits and five strikeouts in six innings pitched. Road Warriors starter Felix Rodriguez (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on six hits and six strikeouts in six inning pitched.

The 2004 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday evening with a 7:05 pm game against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors.
