Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 5, 2004) â The Bridgeport Bluefish completed a three-game sweep of the Long Island Ducks tonight, coming back from a 5-1 eighth inning deficit for a 6-5 victory at Citibank Park. With the loss, Long Island falls to 18-10 and remains 2 ½ games ahead of the Nashua Pride in the Atlantic League's North Division.
The Ducks cruised through the first seven innings of play tonight. Starter Kris Kozlowski went seven innings and allowed just one earned run on six hits, while the Long Island offense plated runs in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh innings on their way to a commanding 5-1 lead.
In the fateful eighth, Bridgeport scored five runs on four hits and two errors to take a 6-5 lead. Long Island's Jim Stoops (0-1) came on to relieve Kozlowski and immediately surrendered three consecutive singles before committing an error and being removed for Bill Simas in a 5-4 game. Simas allowed a walk and a single that scored two more runs before recording the final out of the eighth.
After Long Island failed to score in the bottom of the eighth, Bluefish closer Mel Rojas came on in the ninth and retired the Ducks 1-2-3 to end the game.
