Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth, the Ducks came within one outstanding outfield play of tying the game. With runners at second and third, P.J. Rose singled to right, bringing home Jose Offerman.
But rightfielder Jason Romano, who had just been moved at the start of the inning from leftfield to right, threw a perfect hard strike to the plate to nail the speedy Estee Harris and end the game. Harris had three hits, including two doubles, in his second home game with Long Island, and Rose delivered three RBI with his ninth inning single and a pair of sacrifice flies. Mike Lockwood and Jeff nettles each homered for the Patriots, keeping pace with each other for tops in the league in RBI with 47 apiece. Nettles homer was his league-leading 17th of the season.
