ST. PAUL, MN (May 17, 2010) - For the third consecutive game the St. Paul Saints came from behind, but it was a solo homer in the ninth inning that did them in as they dropped a one run game to the Lincoln Saltdogs 3-2 on Monday night in front of 3,271 at Midway Stadium.

With the score tied at two in the ninth Saints closer Hunter Davis gave up a solo homer to Saltdogs number nine hitter Brandon Jones, his first of the season. Jones had struck out in his three previous at bats.

The Saints tried to threaten in the ninth as Kevin Millar led off with a single, but with two outs pinch runner Andrew Schmiesing was thrown out trying to steal.

For the third straight game the Saints trailed early. In the first Albenis Machado led off with a single. With one out Phil Hawke walked and Juan Richardson followed with a two-run double to make it 2-0.

Saints starter Ryan Morse got into trouble in the second, loading the bases, but struck out Hawke to end the inning. That seemed to give Morse confidence as he went 6.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking five and striking out eight.

The Saints were able to tie the game with a run in the fourth and fifth. In the fourth Jason Cooper singled, Ole Sheldon walked and Gerard Haran doubled home Cooper to make it 2-1.

In the fifth Steve Mays singled and, with one, out Josh Alley walked. Millar followed with an RBI single. With two outs Sheldon walked to load the bases, but Chris Cullin came on in relief and got Brent Krause to ground out to end the inning.

In the sixth the Saints threatened again after Haran walked and advanced to third on an errant pick off attempt. Brandon Carter walked and stole second, but Mays followed with a fly out to shallow center against reliever Nolan Chestnut. Coby Smith struck out, and after Alley was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Millar struck out to end the inning.

The same two teams meet Tuesday night at Midway Stadium at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Joe Woerman (1-0, 0.00) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Chris Britton (0-1, 4.50). It is the celebration of the Saints 18th birthday with Magnet Schedule Giveaway presented by Metropolitan State University to the first 5,000 fans. The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330 and seen on the Saints Cable Network (check saintsbaseball.com for the channel in your area).
