El Paso Diablos News Release

The Diablos' pitching returned to form on Sunday night allowing them to earn a split of their four game series with a 5-3 win over the Sioux City Explorers, at Cohen Stadium. Some timely hitting to go along with good clutch pitching down the stretch helped to preserve their second win of the season.

He was helped by some good defense which turned two double plays behind him. Down the stretch Earl Oakes and Amad Stephens got some big clutch outs to preserve the lead. Oakes stranded a runner at third in the seventh inning, and after allowing a run in the eighth inning, Stephens stranded the tying runs on base. P.J. Bevis came in a pitched an easy 1-2-3 ninth inning to preserve the win.

The Diablos got off to a quick start as they were aided by two first inning errors helping them to score a run in the first. They struck for three more runs in the second inning before adding their final run on a Matt Imwalle RBI double in the fifth. The Diablos' offense was led by two hitters who were able to break out of slow starts to the season. Adam Deleo and Jonathan Reynoso both went 2-4 to lead the offense.

El Paso has an off day on Monday before returning to the field on Tuesday when they welcome in Fort Worth for a three game series. Tuesday's game Kids Day as first pitch is slated for 10:30 AM. The Diablos will send D.J. Mattox (1-0) to the mound to open the series.
