South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN â To say Agustin Murillo has been carrying the South Bend Silver Hawks offensively through the early portions of the first half of the season, would be a disservice to his teammates who have done a good job of producing runs as well. Monday night, Murillo received help from Mark Reynolds and Wilkin Castillo who each hit solo homers to lift the Hawks to a 4-2 series opening win over the Burlington Bees.
Burlington (18-24) scored first, picking up a run in the second inning, when Brandon Simon misplayed an Eddie Solis base hit into a two base error, scoring Rusty Brown who walked with two out.
The Hawks (26-18) tied the game in the home half of the third inning when Mark Reynolds opened the frame with a solo home run to left field for his third round tripper of 2005. The Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth sending six players to the plate.
With one out, Carlos Gonzalez singled, Javier Brito followed with a base hit and Jereme Milons reached on shortstop Ed Lucas' fielding error. Mark Reynolds then came to the plate and was walked by Burlington starter Billy Buckner, scoring Carlos Gonzalez. The Hawks threatened to add another run, but Jereme Milons hit into a double play when Javier Brito tried to score from third base and was thrown out by center fielder Alan Moye.
After the Bees knotted the game at two in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Geraldo Valentin, the Hawks bounced back in the home half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Wilkin Castillo charged a Billy Buckner pitch over the right field wall for his third big blast of the year giving the Hawks their margin of victory.
Matt Elliott came our of the Hawks pen in the ninth inning to grab his ninth save of the year helping starter Steven Jackson improve to 4-2, while Billy Buckner dropped to 3-6.
The Silver Hawks and Burlington Bees continue their four game series Tuesday. Tuesday's are TCU Silver Hawks Kids Club Day's presented by TCU and U93. All Kids Club members receive two free tickets when they show their membership card at the box office. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 PM with gates opening at 5:30 PM.
