Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GENEVA, IL -- Mike Wilson hit a one-out, solo home run in the top of the tenth to lead the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 7-6 win over the Kane County Cougars Monday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Rob Johnson was 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI for the Rattlers. The extra inning win got Wisconsin's twelve game road trip off to a good start.
Wisconsin (24-20) used three straight two-out singles to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Wilson drove in the run with the final single of the sequence.
Kane County (20-23) took advantage of wildness by Rattler starter Casey Abrams. The lefty walked the first three batters of the bottom of the first to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Tommy Everidge tied the game. A single by Jose Pineda made it 2-1. An error by Brandon Green allowed the third run to score.
The Rattlers tied the game in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Asdrubal Cabrera and an RBI single by Oswaldo Navarro.
But, the Cougars retook the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second. The first run of the inning scored on the fourth wild pitch of the game by Abrams. The second scored on an infield ground out by Kevin Melillo.
Johnson's line drive, two-run home run to left field in the top of the fifth inning tied the game 5-5.
Oswaldo Navarro scored on a wild pitch with two out in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rattlers in front 6-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rattler reliever Chad Fillinger got the first two outs. But, then he gave up three straight singles -- the final one an RBI single by Kory Wayment -- that tied the game 6-6.
Wilson drove the first pitch he saw from Scot Drucker over the wall in right for his third homer of the season and a 7-6 Rattler lead.
Rattler closer Craig James issued a one out walk in the bottom of the tenth, but got Wes Long to hit into a game-ending 5-4-3 double play.
Game two of the series is Tuesday night. Mumba Rivera (6-0, 2.45ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jared Trout (0-1, 2.82ERA) is slated to start for the Cougars. Game time is 6:00pm.
