Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL â The Kane County Cougars and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers took 10 innings to decide Monday night's game at Elfstrom Stadium. Wisconsin's outfielder Mike Wilson roped an extra-inning solo home run off Scot Drucker to give the Cougars a 7-6 defeat.
Wisconsin grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Cougars starter Derek Tharpe but Kane County's offense answered in the bottom half with three runs off Rattlers starter Casey Abrams. The lefty walked Ryan Ruiz, Wes Long and Kevin Melillo before Tommy Everidge tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Jose Pineda, making his Cougars debut from extended spring training, delivered an RBI single in his first at-bat to make it 2-1. Then Chalon Tietje reached on an error to make it 3-1.
After Wisconsin tied it in the second, the Cougars got two unearned runs for a 5-3 game. Kory Wayment scored on a wild pitch and Melillo had an RBI groundout. The Timber Rattlers answered with a two-run fifth and took the lead 6-5 in the seventh off reliever James Heuser. Kane County got even with three straight two-out singles in seventh. Chris Tritle, Raul Padron and Wayment each had a hit for a 6-6 game. After Connor Robertson worked two scoreless innings for the Cougars and Scot Drucker got through the ninth, Drucker gave up the Wilson homer in the tenth, leading to the 7-6 final.
Drucker (2-3) took the loss and reliever Chad Fillinger (1-2) got the win for Wisconsin. Craig James had his fourth save of the year.
Game two of the series is set for Tuesday night at 6 CDT. Jared Trout (0-1, 2.82) takes the mound for the Cougars (20-23) against right-hander Mumba Rivera (6-0, 2.45) for the Timber Rattlers (24-20).
