May 23, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL – The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announced today that outfielder Jose Pineda will fill the remaining spot on the roster when the Cougars face the Wisconsin Timber Ratters in game one of a four-game set this evening at 6:00 p.m. The Cougars were left a man down this past Saturday in Fort Wayne when Javier Herrera was called up to play with the AAA Sacramento River Cats.

Native to the Dominican Republic, Pineda arrives in Kane County after playing four seasons (2000-02, 2004) in the Dominican Summer League (Rookie). Not playing in 2003, the outfielder posted his best numbers last season, producing a .315 average with 33 RBI and 5 home runs in 49 games played. The Oakland A's signed Pineda as a non-drafted free agent on December 22, 1999.

The Cougars kick start an explosive eight-game homestand tonight comprised of 2 four-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Seattle Mariners) and the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays). Leading into the Memorial Day Weekend, the stretch features visits from Jake the Diamond Dog (May 23 – 26), Myron Noodleman (May 27), the ZOOperstars (May 28) and BirdZerk (May 29) along with three fabulous fireworks displays (May 27, 28 & 29). Fans won't be able to take their eyes off the sky as skydivers drop in on Saturday and the Lima Lima flying team jets in over the stadium on Sunday. As part of the holiday weekend, the Cougars will be making special tribute to the armed forces as part of their Military Appreciation celebration. Those showing proper military identification will receive discounted tickets at the Elfstrom Stadium box office, based upon availability, from Friday, May 27 through Monday, May 30. The Cougars are currently raising funds and will continue to do so through the weekend for Illinois Military Family Relief Fund and Operation Home Front in addition to collecting donations for troops deployed worldwide.
