Solar Bears Head into Holiday Break with 7-4 Loss to Swamp Rabbits

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Orlando Solar Bears (10-11-2-3), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 7-4 loss to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (13-12-3-0) in front of a crowd of 2,429 on Sunday afternoon at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Both teams played through a scoreless first period, with Orlando setting a new season-high for shots on goal in a single period with 17.

The teams found their offensive stride in the middle frame, as Max Nicastro converted on a one-timer from T.J. Foster at 1:52 for a power-play goal that gave Orlando a 1-0 lead.

Johnny McInnis scored at 6:45, and then Matt Rupert added a wrist shot that beat P.J. Musico at 8:08.

The Swamp Rabbits answered with a goal on the man advantage from Jack Combs, while Joey Holka scored at 11:47 and then Darian Dziurzynski tallied at 13:42 to tie the score at 3-3.

Greenville continued its offensive onslaught in the third period with a pair of goals in the first 71 seconds of the third frame, as Bretton Cameron scored at 0:41, and Richard Nejezchleb gave Greenville a two-goal lead.

McInnis netted a power-play goal for Orlando at 6:00, but Combs put the game out of reach for the Solar Bears with a goal at 11:09 and an empty-net tally to complete the hat trick at 18:24.

Ryan Massa took the loss with 23 saves on 29 shots against; Musico earned the win with 40 saves on 44 shots against.
