Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Jefferson Dahl and Rob Linsmayer both netted second period tallies to erase a two-goal deficit, but Eric Roy buried the shootout winner to push the Allen Americans (16-10-1) past the Idaho Steelheads (11-14-5), 3-2 at CenturyLink Arena.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Steelheads, though they do carry a five-game points streak into the Christmas Break. The Americans snapped their three-game winless streak, dating back to their home overtime loss to Idaho last Sunday.

Emil Molin and Dahl both scored in the shootout for Idaho, who are now 1-1 in the tie-breaker this year. But Jonathan Parker, Gary Steffes, and Roy all got the puck behind Philippe Desrosiers, with Roy's serving as the winner.

The Steelheads outshot the Americans 33-15 for the game, only surrendering four shots in each of the first three periods before overtime. Yet the Steelheads trailed entering the second period after Chad Costello and Chris Crane both beat Desrosiers in the first period. Costello, the ECHL's leader in scoring, has at least a point in each game between the two teams this season.

Idaho answered back at 12:01 of the second when Dahl took the rebound of a Zack Kamrass shot off the end boards and snapped it past Allen's Riley Gill, his 13th goal of the season and seventh on the power play, both of which lead the team. At 18:46 of the second, following several minutes of extended offensive zone pressure, Linsmayer dragged a puck to the high slot from the right wing corner and ripped a low shot through traffic to the short-side of Gill to tie the game.

It's a three-game goal scoring streak for both Linsmayer and Dahl, with Linsmayer netting four goals in that span. Kyle Jean, with two assists, pushed his points streak to five games (3-8-11).

The teams would go scoreless in the third period and overtime. The Steelheads came from behind for the third straight game to earn at least a point. The Steelheads also hit five posts in the game, including a first period shot off the crossbar by Dahl that was initially ruled a goal but then disallowed.

The Steelheads are off for the Christmas break but return to action on December 26th against the Utah Grizzlies at CenturyLink Arena, with puck-drop scheduled for 7:10pm MT. The game can be heard on 1350AM KTIK, and seen on Cable One Channel 72 and ECHLTV.

PLAY OF THE GAME:

Rob Linsmayer dragged the puck out of the right wing corner and snapped his low hard shot through traffic to draw the Steelheads even and continue their streak of resiliency in the second periods of games, which has been a key in the team's five-game points streak. Prior to that goal, the Steelheads pinned Allen in their own zone for minutes at a time, with all five Allen players trapped on the ice while the Steelheads themselves made three line changes! Right after the Americans cleared the zone and got a change, Linsmayer came right back with the goal and the Steelheads strong forecheck pressure was rewarded.
