Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced forward Ryan Rashid has been returned on loan from the AHL's Charlotte Checkers. He is expected to play this afternoon against Orlando.
Rashid made 23 appearances with the Swamp Rabbits earlier this season and was tied for third on the club in scoring with 13 points (6g, 7a) prior to his call-up on December 6. He also notched two power-play goals, 20 penalty minutes and 61 shots. The 25-year-old skated in two contests while on a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) with Charlotte.
A native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Rashid came to the Swamp Rabbits this past offseason following a successful rookie campaign with Elmira in 2014-15. In 65 games, he led the Jackals with 25 assists and finished second on the club with 41 points. He added 16 goals, 51 penalty minutes and a +7 rating during that span. In addition, the second-year forward debuted with Elmira in 2013-14 and notched four points (2g, 2a) in just six contests.
Prior to turning pro, Rashid played four seasons at Niagara University from 2010-14, producing 88 points (38g, 50a) in 143 collegiate games. He helped lead the Purple Eagles to the American Hockey Association (AHA) regular season championship in 2012-13 and was named to the AHA All-Rookie Team in 2010-11 after amassing a career-best 13 goals and 26 points in 34 games.
Before attending Niagara, the 6'2, 194-pounder played junior hockey for the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Rashid helped St. Louis capture the Robertson Cup as the NAHL champion in 2008-09.
