November 12, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 11/12/08 - Only a handful of days after being claimed off of waivers, John Snowden signed with the Amarillo Gorillas Wednesday.
The veteran of five professional seasons will join the team in time for this weekend's games at Odessa (Friday) and Corpus Christi (Saturday).
In seven games this season with the Rocky Mountain Rage, Snowden scored three goals and had six penalty minutes. He set a career high in points with Greenville of the ECHL in 2005-06, when he scored 64 points in 69 games.
"John is a proven scorer at the ECHL level," said Gorillas Head Coach Tom Coolen. "We believe he will be a good fit in Amarillo as we move through the season."
Last season, Snowden split time with the Rosenheim Star Bulls of the Oberliga in Germany and the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. While with Rosenheim, the Snohomish, WA native netted 26 goals and 55 points in just 38 games, ranking second on the squad in scoring.
Early in his career, the 6'0", 205-pound winger played for the U.S. National Under-18 Team and the U.S. Jr. National Team from 1998 to 2000. Twice during his tenure in the ECHL (from 2003 to 2008), Snowden served as the captain of his team.
