Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - J.J. Martin scored his second career goal off of a great feed from Neil Clark with just 36 seconds remaining to help the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 4-3 victory over Mississippi Wednesday night at CenturyTel Center. The RiverKings had come from 3-1 down to tie the game before Martin's game-winner that moved the Mudbugs to 8-2 this season.

Joe Blaznek had a goal and an assist in the 600th game of his pro career while Clark and Kevin Cooper also scored one goal and set up another. Bossier-Shreveport scored three powerplay goals in the game to win their third straight over the RiverKings.

Mississippi scored first in the game when Jeff Nelson put home his second goal of the season on a powerplay at 3:30 of the opening period. The Bugs would answer back a short time later though when Blaznek roofed one over the shoulder of Kevin Beech just after a Mudbugs powerplay had expired to tie it. Neil Clark's hard work then paid off when he drew a penalty and scored on the ensuing powerplay, picking up the rebound of a Dale Lupul shot from the point to make it 2-1. Before the period was out, Blaznek's great centering feed set up Cooper's powerplay goal to give the Bugs a 3-1 lead after one.

The RiverKings came roaring back in the second period though, getting a powerplay goal from Garrett Larson and a shorthanded tally from Louis Dumont to pull even at three. Mississippi outshot Bossier-Shreveport 18-5 in the second frame.

There were numerous powerplays but not many scoring chances in the third period, and the Mudbugs killed off three consecutive RiverKings powerplay chances as the final period wore on to keep the score tied at three. Then with less than two minutes remaining, Blaznek drew a penalty that put the Bugs on a powerplay of their own. Tyrel Lucas tipped the puck to Clark, who found Martin open at the goal mouth to tuck in the game-winner at 19:24 to complete the 4-3 win.

Bossier-Shreveport finished 3-for-10 on the powerplay, while Mississippi was 2-for-7. The RiverKings outshot the Mudbugs 31-18 in the game. Jon Horrell earned his second straight win in goal, while Kevin Beech lost for the fourth time this year for the Kings.
