Snider Shines on the Mound, Tulsa Completes Comeback in 9th

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions continued their six-game series against the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday afternoon. After losing game one, the Missions looked as if they would rebound in game two. With a strong start from Duncan Snider and a late home run from Brantley Bell, the club had a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. After two hits and three walks, the Drillers walked it off for a 3-2 final score.

Nick Nastrini was the starting pitcher for the Drillers. After two scoreless frames, the Missions gained the lead against the right-hander in the top of the third inning. Luis Aviles Jr. began the frame with a base hit. Chandler Seagle attempted a sacrifice bunt but lined out instead. Ripken Reyes grounded out and Aviles Jr. advanced to second base. Ray-Patrick Didder reached base on a throwing error from Jorbit Vivas to extend the inning. On the play, Aviles Jr. came in to score the game's first run. San Antonio gained a 1-0 lead.

Duncan Snider was the starting pitcher for the Missions. The right-hander issued just one walk throughout the first three innings. Tulsa ended the no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a one-out double from Andy Pages. Snider put a second runner on base after issuing a walk to Imanol Vargas. Jose Ramos flew out and Pages advanced to third base. With runners on the corners and two outs, Eddys Leonard was called out on an automatic strike via a pitch timer violation.

Nastrini allowed just one base hit in five innings of work. The right-hander issued one walk while striking out two batters. River Ryan took over on the mound in the top of the sixth inning.

Tulsa used the long ball to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Snider attempting to record a quality start, Jonny DeLuca hit a leadoff home run. His eighth home run of the season tied the game at 1-1. Snider allowed a single to Vivas and was removed from the game for Jose Espada. Espada picked off Vivas to record the first out of the inning. After retiring the next batter, Vargas hit a single to keep the inning alive. Ramos flew out to end the frame. The game was tied up at 1-1.

The top of the eighth inning saw the Missions regain the lead. With Ryan still on the mound, Brantley Bell hit a line drive over the right field wall for a solo home run. His first long ball of the season made it a 2-1 ballgame.

Tulsa threatened to tie the game in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Facing Jared Koenig, DeLuca doubled with one out and put himself in scoring position. Vivas grounded out and DeLuca advanced to third base. After intentionally walking Pages, Vargas flew out to end the scoring threat.

The Missions had a chance to add an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Facing Tanner Dodson, Pedro Castellanos hit a one-out single. Connor Hollis hit a single to center field and Castellanos advanced to third base. On the play, Hollis advanced safely to second base. With two runners on and two outs, Tirso Ornelas grounded out end the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Nick Hernandez entered the game for the Missions. After striking out the first batter, he allowed a single and a walk to put two runners on with just one out. Hernandez loaded the bases after walking Josh Stowers. A third consecutive walk allowed Tulsa to tie the game. Lake Bachar took over for Hernandez and inherited a bases loaded, one-out situation. On the second pitch of the at-bat, DeLuca ended the game with a single off the left field wall.

The San Antonio Missions will continue their six-game series against the Drillers on Thursday, May 4th. San Antonio has not yet announced their starter for Thursday's game. Right-hander Emmet Sheehan (1-1, 3.26) is scheduled to pitch for the Drillers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 a.m. from ONEOK Field.
