Sneed Dazzles as Saints Become First Team to 50 Wins with 3-0 Shutout Victory over RedHawks

FARGO, ND (August 1, 2015) - The month of August has traditionally been a disastrous one for the St. Paul Saints. They haven't had a winning record in the month since 2009, but Kramer Sneed made sure they got off on the right foot. He hurled 8.0 scoreless innings and the Saints blanked the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 3-0 on Saturday evening at Newman Outdoor Field. The Saints became the first American Association team to 50 wins, improving to 50-16 and maintained their 18.5 game lead in the North Division.

Sneed walked the second batter he faced, Zach Penprase and then proceeded to retire the next nine men he faced before a one out double by Chad Mozingo in the fourth. That was no trouble for Sneed who got former Saint Joe Bonfe to pop out and Joe Dunigan to fly out to end the inning.

The lone leadoff man to reach against Sneed came in the seventh when Bonfe singled to right. Sneed, however, struck out Dunigan, got Ryan Pineda to pop out and Joe Staley to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The lone trouble Sneed got into came in the eighth when he gave up back-to-back singles with two outs to Drew Muren and Zach Penprase, but he struck out Mozingo to end the inning. Sneed went 8.0 shutout innings, the longest shutout outing in his career, on four hits while walking two and striking out three. He threw 108 pitches, 75 for strikes. Sneed improved to 10-2, becoming the second Saints pitcher to reach the 10 win platea, joining Dustin Crenshaw who has 11.

The Saints got Sneed the only run support he needed in the third when Willie Argo walked and scored on a double from Vinny DiFazio to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth the Saints tacked on two more when Argo led off with a single, stole second and DiFazio walked. With two outs, and Argo at third, and DiFazio at second, Taylor Stanton unleashed a wild pitch allowing Argo to score making it 2-0. Ryan Lashley made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

The shutout was the third of the season for the Saints and first since June 6 when they blanked the Sioux Falls Canaries 2-0 at CHS Field.

Ryan Rodebaugh picked up his 16th save of the season with a perfect ninth and Dan Kaczrowski continued his career high hitting streak with a single in the second. He has hit safely in 15 straight, tying Ian Gac's mark for longest of the season.

The same two teams meet in game two of the three game series Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. The Saints send RHP Jeff Shields (9-1, 3.08) to the mound against RedHawks LHP Brandon Mann (3-6, 4.18). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
