Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS (August 1, 2015) - The Wichita Wingnuts are on the East Coast and preparing for seven games north of the border in Canada. Needing a starting pitcher and approximately 1400 miles from home, the Wingnuts found their man in right-hander Eddie Medina. The New York native will be on the mound for the opening game of a series in Ottawa on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.

The 23-year old Medina made one appearance already this season for the York Revolution of the Atlantic League. On July 17th he allowed three runs on four hits in 2.2 innings.

His professional career began in 2013 with the Las Vegas Train Robbers of the Pecos League. He went 4-1 with a 3.95 earned run average in 18 appearances, 10 of them as a starter. In 68.1 innings he struck out 66 opponents and walked 39. The next year he spent 14 games in the United League with both Brownsville and Fort Worth. Combined, he was 5-3 in 13 starts with a 3.36 ERA.

The native of Staten Island began his college career with one season as a reliever for Centenary. Following his freshman season Medina transferred to St. John's and went 14-7 with the Red Storm, posting a career 4.73 earned run average.

He gained national notoriety on April 16, 2011 in a game against Louisville when a comebacker off the bat hit Medina in the side of his head. Remarkably, he stayed in the game and eventually earned the win. Video of the play, which is visible on YouTube, has received over 5,000 views.
