
Snappers thrash Lumberkings

Notes: Both the Lumberkings and the Snappers held each other scoreless through four innings on Sunday afternoon. But then the Snappers broke the game open with a five run fifth inning. Snappers starter Alexander Smit pitched seven innings, gave up only two hits, walked three, and struck out nine. Clinton starter Jose Jimenez threw five and two thirds innings, allowed eight earned runs, twelve hits, two walks, and struck out two.
Dwayne White lead off the bottom of the fifth inning with a walk. Eli Tintor followed with a double to left. White then scored on a fielder's choice hit by Juan Portes. Tintor and Portes later scored on a double by Jose Leger. Tarrence Patterson drove in Leger for the last run of the inning, making the score 5-0 in favor of the Snappers.
The Snappers struck again in the sixth inning tagging Clinton starter Jose Jimenez for three runs. The rally was started on three consecutive singles by White, Tintor, and Portes. Jimenez then walked Leger, scoring White. Toby Gardenhire hit into a double play, erasing Portes, but scoring Tintor. Leger scored on a Tarrence Patterson bunt single to third, making the score 8-0 Snappers.
Clinton got one run in the top of the eighth off of reliever Danny Vais making the score 8-1 Snappers. Frank Mata would replace Vais in the top of the ninth, and hold Clinton scoreless making the final 8-1 in favor of Beloit.
Upcoming Schedule: The final game in this series between the Lumberkings and the Snappers will take place Monday with the first pitch at 7 pm. The Snappers will travel to Cedar Rapids on Thursday to do battle with the Kernels. The first pitch on Thursday will be at 7 pm.
