
Road woes continue with 7-5 loss to Cougars

August 19, 2006 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels dropped their fourth game in their last six on the road to the Kane County Cougars, 7-5, in front of 12,525 fans at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, IL on Saturday. The loss drops the Kernels to 25-30 in the second half, 7-1/2 games behind Beloit for the last MWL playoff spot with 14 games remaining in the regular season.
Kernels starter Andy Hill (3-10) gave up eight hits and six runs (five earned) with three walks over 5-1/3 innings for the loss. Mike Pete pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with one strikeout. And, Tim Mattison gave up three hits and an earned run in 1-2/3 innings of relief.
Cedar Rapids had eleven hits with four going for doubles. Dallas Morris went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI as Marco Albano, Anderson Rosario, Flint Wipke and Brad Coon each had a double. Stantrel Smith was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Albano was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
The Kernels will work to climb back towards the .500 mark on Sunday afternoon as Amalio Diaz (1-0) starts for the Kernels against Trey Shields for Kane County. Game time is 2 pm.
