Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Beloit offense provided plenty of run support for Joey Wagman's impressive debut on the mound, as the Snappers cruised to an 11-4 win over the Peoria Chiefs Thursday night.

The Snappers fell one run short of their season-high mark for runs scored in a game (12-11 W on June 14th) and Wagman lasted seven innings (7 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 7 SO) in his first game with the club. Wagman was signed yesterday from the Rockford Aviators, an independent team less than 30 miles away from Beloit.

Beloit totaled 15 hits on the night, with every Snapper batter recording a hit. Ryan Mathews went 3-for-4 with two RBI's, his first hits in the series against Peoria.

Tyler Marincov continued his recent hot streak as he finished the night 2-for-5, his eighth multi-hit game in his last 11 appearances (20-for-40 over the span).

Wagman picked up the win for the Snappers while Blake McKnight recorded the loss for the Chiefs (3 IP, 7 H, 7 ER).

The Snappers began their scoring extravaganza in the second inning as they put up four runs to take the early lead.

After two singles and a walk loaded the bases, Melvin Mercedes came through with the bases-clearing triple to give Beloit a 3-0 lead. Branden Cogswell's sacrifice fly to center field sent Mercedes home from third base to give Beloit a 4-0 lead.

Beloit extended its lead to 7-0 in the third inning as Ryan Mathews and Branden Cogswell delivered with timely RBI's. Tyler Marincov led off the frame with a double and Mathews sent him home from second base with a single to center field. After Justin Higley was walked, Cogswell cleared the bases with a 2-run triple to give the Snappers a 7-0 lead.

The Snappers added a run in the fourth inning and the Chiefs recorded their first hit of the night in the fifth, as Justin Ringo sent a double down the right field line. Michael Schulze provided the RBI to score Ringo and Peoria took an 8-1 deficit into the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Beloit continued its offensive outburst as it put up three more runs to take a 11-1 lead.

The Chiefs attempted a modest comeback in the eighth inning as they put up three runs of their own to cut Beloit's lead to 11-4. After a single and double by Michael Schulze and Vaughn Bryan, CJ McElroy connected on an RBI-single to score Schulze. Juan Herrera and Justin Ringo provided the two final RBI's before a double play ended the inning.

The Snappers continue their six-game homestand and begin a three-game series against Cedar Rapids Friday night at 7:00 p.m at Pohlman Field.
