Thursday, July 31, 2014 - Midland, Michigan - First Pitch 7:05 p.m. - Game 108

All 140 games air live on ESPN Radio 1380 (WKJG). All 70 home games are televised live on Comcast XFINITY Channel 81.

About Last Game : The TinCaps took a 1-0 lead on the 2nd pitch of the game when Trea Turner hit a solo home run off Brandon Martinez, and as it would turn out, that was the game-winning hit in a 4-0 victory. Starter Kyle Lloyd struck out 8 in 6 scoreless innings as he allowed only 2 hits and 1 walk. Jorge Guzman worked the 7th and 8th without surrendering a run and Ryan Butler closed the door in the 9th. Meanwhile, Jake Bauers, Nick Schulz, and Turner all provided insurance RBIs.

A TinCaps Win Would : Be their 4th in a row... Be their 7th in their last 8... Improve their record to 13-5 in their last 18 since a 13-game losing streak... Give them their 2nd road sweep of the month, and season... Be a sweep of the Loons on the road for the first time in TinCaps history. (The Wizards swept the Loons in the final series of the 2007 season: Sept. 1-3.)

Playoff Picture : The TinCaps enter Thursday just 1 game out of a playoff spot in the MWL Eastern Division. After West Michigan and South Bend clinched postseason bids in the 1st half, the Whitecaps and Silver Hawks are the only teams in the division with winning records so far in the 2nd half. With 32 games to go (19 of which are at Parkview Field), Fort Wayne is 1 1/2 games behind Lake County for the best record in the division of the 6 teams still vying for the postseason. At 18-20, Dayton and Lansing are both 1 game better than the TinCaps.

Shut. OUT : Wednesday was Fort Wayne's 5th shutout win of the season and 3rd in their last 13 games. The TinCaps also shut out Cedar Rapids, 2-0, on July 20 and Quad Cities, 7-0, on the 18th. Earlier in the year, Fort Wayne blanked Lansing, 1-0, on May 6 and Lake County, 7-0, on May 13 (which was the only one that came at home). As hard as it is to believe, this was nearly the team's 6th shutout in its last 13. On Tuesday, the TinCaps didn't concede a run until the 8th. Last Friday, they kept a shutout in tact till the 9th against Beloit, and last Wednesday, didn't allow a run to Beloit until the 8th.

Trea Longz : Trea Turner hit his 1st home run with the TinCaps Wednesday. Turner's 1st professional home run came with Short-Season A Eugene on July 9. At North Carolina State this spring, the shortstop hit 8 longballs. As a sophomore in 2013, he hit 7, and in his 1st year with the Wolf Pack, he launched 5 homers. Through 16 games in the Midwest League, Turner's OPS is 1.215. The qualifying league leader is Wisconsin's Clint Coulter (.922).

Over their last 17 games, Fort Wayne starters have allowed 3 earned runs or fewer in all but 2 games. The TinCaps are 12-5 in that time. Prior to this stretch, Fort Wayne had lost 13 consecutive games, during which its starters allowed more than 3 earned runs 6 times.

Jeffery Enloe has been a key part of Fort Wayne's recent pitching prowess since he entered the rotation on July 3. In 5 starts, Enloe has allowed a total of 6 earned runs. Most recently against Wisconsin on Saturday at Parkview Field, the 24-year-old lefty worked 6 innings with only 1 run allowed on 6 hits and 2 walks. He matched his season high with 4 strikeouts.
