Offense Remains Quiet in Bees' Loss

(Cedar Rapids, IA) Cedar Rapids Kernels' pitching held the Burlington Bees' to just one run on four hits, beating the Bees, 6-1, on Thursday night, sweeping the three game series.

With two outs in the first inning, Chad Christensen walked and then Mitch Garver crushed a two run homer, giving the Cedar Rapids Kernels a 2-0 lead.

Engelb Vielma led off the second inning with a triple down the right field line. Ryan Walker hit a fly ball to center, deep enough to score Vielma, extending the Kernels' lead to 3-0.

Erick Salcedo picked up the first hit of the game for the Bees, with a one out single to right. Kody Eaves put the Bees on the board, blasting his 31st double of the season, scoring Salcedo and cutting the Bees' deficit at 3-1.

Max Murphy got that run back for the Kernels with a solo home run to center in the sixth inning, putting the Kernels back up three at 4-1.

The Bees threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with one out but left the runners stranded.

Cedar Rapids added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, on RBI singles by Max Murphy and Michael Quesada on their way to a 6-1 win.

Chih-Wei Hu (4-0) earned the win for the Kernels while Bees' starter Victor Alcantara (6-5) was charged with the loss.

The Burlington Bees (57-51) return home Friday night to host the Clinton LumberKings at 6:35 PM. Harrison Cooney will get the ball for the Bees and Carlos Misell will go for Cedar Rapids.
