KODAK, Tenn. -- The Montgomery Biscuits (27-18; 62-53) left the bases loaded in the ninth inning at Smokies Park Monday night, stranding the possibility of taking the series finale from the Tennessee Smokies (23-22; 59-54).

For the Smokies, the much-anticipated Double-A pitching debut of Jeff Samadzija was a successful one. He threw six innings, allowing only a Patick Breen sacrifice fly in the second inning. He struck out the first hitter and last hitter he faced in a six-inning win.

Meanwhile, the Smokies battered Montgomery starter Jon Barratt, collecting two runs in the first and third innings and knocking him out of the box after four innings.

A solo home run by Erold Andrus (his first at Double-A) in the seventh inning rounded out the Biscuits' scoring. They loaded the bases in the ninth on a walk, a bunt single and a third-strike wild pitch, but left filder Jorge Cortes made two sensational catches and closer Rocky Roquet made a fine play on a Brooks Badeaux chopper to end the game.

The Biscuis nonetheless won the series, three games to two and finished the roadtrip, 6-4. Montgomery also remained two games back of the Jacksonville Suns due to the Suns' 5-3 loss to Chattanooga.

Montgomery welcomes Chattanooga to town on Wednesday for the first of a five-game series. In a 7:05 p.m. game, the Biscuits send righty Wade Davis (4-2) to the mound.
