Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (22-23) held on Tuesday night to seal the series against West Tenn (18-27) by a 4-2 mark at Five County Stadium.

Eric Riggs lead the offensive charge, driving in three Mudcats runs off two hits. Riggs, who hit a double in seven straight games entering Tuesday, failed to double but did pass up second base twice. Riggs hit a two-RBI triple in the third and added to that with a solo shot in the fifth.

A day after blowing a three run lead, Mudcats starter Blake McGinley made sure they would preserve this lead. The southpaw one-hit the Diamond Jaxx, lasting six innings of shutout baseball. The outing was the longest start in his seven-year pro career, covering 18 outings, picking up his fifth win. McGinley gave up a one out double to West Tenn catcher Rene Rivera in the third for his only hit. Just three Diamond Jaxx hitters reached base against McGinley.

West Tenn made the 4-0 interesting in the last two innings. With two outs and runners on the corner, Jesus Merchan singled in Rivera to break the shutout. Mudcats reliever James Russ then struck out one of the best hitters in the Southern League, Charlton Jimerson to end the threat.

Chris Mobley came in to close out his tenth save in fifteen opportunities. A pair of singles brought the tying run to the plate but Mobley got Erick Monzon to ground out, ending the game.

Carolina, winners of their last two series, travels down to Jacksonville for a five game series against first place Jacksonville. Chris Seddon (5-7, 4.89) goes on the mound Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05.
