Smokies Play Clean Game to Win 8-3

CHATTANOOGA, TN- The Smokies controlled game two of the series from start to finish in an 8-3 victory over Chattanooga. Smokies starter Walker Powell picked up his fourth win of the season with a five-inning performance, allowing just two runs while striking out seven batters.

The Smokies got the scoring started in the second inning when BJ Murray scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, Andy Weber knocked in two runners with a single to make it 3-0 Tennessee. The Lookouts made it a one run ballgame in the bottom of the fourth when Alex McGarry singled to score two runners and make it a 3-2 game.

The Smokies extended the lead in the sixth inning when Jordan Nwogu blasted a two-run home run to left field to make it 5-2. Pete Crow-Armstrong doubled high off the wall to score Nwogu and make it a four-run lead. The Smokies tacked on two more runs in the frame when Haydn McGery singled into right field for his seventh RBI in the first two games of the series. McGeary's single made it a five run sixth inning for Tennessee.

The Smokies led 8-2 after seven innings, until Chattanooga scored one run on an Ivan Johnson single in the eighth inning. The Smokies bullpen held on to a five run lead to win game two of the series 8-3. The Smokies play again tomorrow night here in Chattanooga, with the first pitch starting at 7:15 ET.
