Smokies Defeat Braves 3-1 in Series Finale

PEARL, MS -- The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Mississippi Braves 3-1 in Monday night's series finale at Trustmark Park, preventing a sweep and breaking the M-Braves five-game winning streak. The M-Braves travel to Chattanooga before returning to Trustmark Park on Memorial Day.

Mississippi (24-20) scored one run on just four hits while Tennessee (24-20) plated three runs on nine hits. David Rohm collected two hits for the M-Braves. Jason Hursh (3-3) suffered the loss. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits while fanning four in seven innings pitched.

Anthony Giansanti and Wes Darvill reached on back-to-back singles with two out in the top of the fifth. Kris Bryant then delivered a two-run, pinch-hit double to left field to put the Smokies out front 2-0.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the fifth. Kyle Kubitza and David Rohm reached on singles to start the frame. Braeden Schlehuber followed with an RBI-single to left, cutting the Smokies lead to 2-1.

Jae-Hoon Ha singled to start the seventh. He moved over to second a sacrifice bunt and took third on Darvill's single to left. Charlie Cutler drove Ha home on a sacrifice fly to right field, extending Tennessee's lead to 3-1.

Tony Zych (1-2) picked up the win. He went two frames, giving up one earned run on three hits. Armando Rivero (S, 8) tossed the final two frames to pick up the save. Pierce Johnson started and worked four innings for the Smokies and did not allow a hit. He walked two and struck out two.

The M-Braves take a day off before traveling to Chattanooga, TN, for a five-game series against the Lookouts. The Braves send right-hander Williams Perez (2-3, 1.88) to the hill where he'll counter Lookouts righty Nick Struck (0-2, 5.28). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CST.
