Smith's two home runs not enough as New Jersey beats Rockland 8-6

New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) Jon Smith's three RBI's could not help the Boulders overcome a Jackals fifth inning rally as Rockland falls 8-6.
Rockland struggles began in the top of the first as the Jackals manufactured three runs to start the game. With two outs, New Jersey left fielder Francisco Carabello singled just out of the reach of Ryan Mollica that brought Matt Cusick around to score. Carabello and Nick Giarraputo would score later in the inning to make the tally 3-0 after three outs.
The Boulders would battle back in the latter half of the inning on a two run blast by Keith Brachold that made the score 3-2. The dinger ties Brachold with Giarraputo for the league lead in home runs with 15. Rockland would tie things up in the bottom of the third on a single by Ryan Scoma that scored Chris Valencia.
But the Jackals would not surrender the lead or the game. A four-run fifth inning by New Jersey proved to be the deciding factor. Carabello would continue his 3-4 night with a three run home run that put the Jackals up 6-3. Back-to-back singles by Giarraputo and Carlos Guzman would mark the end of the night for Boulders starter Bobby Blevins. Giarraputo would eventually score to make the total 7-3 at the end of five.
The bright spot for Rockland was Jon Smith who would homer in both the seventh and ninth but it would not be enough, as the Jackals would close the door. The two teams take the field again tomorrow night at Provident Bank Park on Italian Heritage Night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
