New Jersey Jackals News Release
Pomona, NY - On Independence Day 2012, the New Jersey Jackals outslugged the Rockland Boulders, as the 8-6 victory is their first at Provident Bank Park this season.
Two-thirds of the Jackals lineup had a multi-hit day, highlighted by Francisco Carraballo's three hits and four RBIs. His three-run home run in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie, as the Jackals would never trail en route to Steve Fox's Can-Am-leading seventh victory of the season.
Fox goes five innings and allows three runs, improving to 7-1 this season.
Rockland's Bobby Blevins gives up seven runs, six earned, in four-and-a-third innings. He drops to 4-6 this year.
The Jackals three through seven hitters recorded five straight base hits on two separate occasions in today's ballgame. It translated into three first inning runs and four fifth-inning runs. The "Big Five" was responsible for all eight Jackals RBIs.
For Rockland, Keith Brachold's two-run home run in the first inning cut the lead to one. His 15th home run of the year puts him one behind Nick Giarraputo for the most in the Can-Am lead. He is also two RBIs behind the Can-Am-leading Giarraputo.
Leadoff hitter Jon Smith connected on two home runs today. He has eight on the season.
This win keeps third-place Rockland five-and-a-half wins away from the all-important second and final playoff spot in the Can-Am standings. With the win, second-place New Jersey improves to 25-19, six games back of Quebec in the Can-Am standings.
Tomorrow, New Jersey sends out Jon Kibler (4-3, 6.05 ERA), coming off a five-run, five-inning performance in a loss to the Newark Bears last Saturday. The Boulders will counter with Jon Velasquez (1-4, 5.66). On May 30th against the Jackals, Velasquez allowed seven runs in six innings in a losing effort. The right hander has allowed at least three runs in his last five outings.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
