Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

Former Idaho Falls Chukar and current Kane County Cougar pitcher Kyle Smith has been named the "Pitcher of the Week" for both the Pioneer and Midwest Leagues for the week ending June 24th.

The 4th Round pick in the 2011 Draft, Smith turned in two dominant starts this past week, blowing past hitters at both the short-season and Low A levels. Making his pro debut for the Chukars, the 6'0" 170 lbs righty went five innings, allowing just one run on three hits with 11 strikeouts against the Orem Owlz. The 11 Ks are still the highest single game total in the Pioneer League this season.

Smith was immediately promoted to Kane County and picked up right where he left off, tossing six no-hit innings with six strikeouts in his first Midwest League start against the Clinton LumberKings.

Combined, Smith is now 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA, allowing just one run on three hits with 17 strikeouts over 11 innings pitched.
