Small Ball Leads to York Victory in Extra Innings

(Waldorf, MD. August 19th 2015) ---York came into the night looking to gain more ground in the Freedom Division, and for the second consecutive night York and Southern Maryland went to extra innings with York coming out on top by the final of 5-4.

York got out to an early lead in the top of the first. With two runners on Eric Patterson singled back up the middle scoring Jose Constanza to make it 1-0. Two batters later, Andres Perez lashed a single in to left center allowing Valdez to score to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the second, Southern Maryland began to chip away. Jovan Rosa led things off with a walk. After two ground ball outs advancing Rosa to third, Casey Frawley singled back up the middle to score the first run of the ballgame to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the third, Antone DeJesus started the rally by being hit by a pitch. Casey Stevenson then singled, and the next hitter, Zach Wilson drove in DeJesus with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Southern Maryland took their first lead of the game. Antone DeJesus led things off with a single, and two batters later Zach Wilson came up huge once again by lashing a single out to left field to DeJesus to make it 3-2 Blue Crabs.

York tied the game and reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth, and seventh. In the sixth, Eric Patterson scored on a wild pitch. In the seventh, Jose Constanza scored when Eric Patterson got caught in a rundown between first and second allowing Jose to score from third to make it 4-3 York.

Down to their final at bat, Southern Maryland tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Once again Antone DeJesus started the rally with a leadoff single. Three batter later, Jovan Rosa who is hitting .391 in his last five games drove a double into the gap in right center to score DeJesus to knot the game at 4-4.

Fast forward to the top of the 11th, York took the lead for good. Jose Constanza looped a fly ball into the gap in left center. It appeared as if Antone DeJesus made the diving catch, but the ball dropped to put a runner in scoring position. After a pass ball, Wilson Valdez dropped down a bunt single in front of the mound on the right side of the infield to score Constanza to make it 5-4.

York out-hit the Blue Crabs 15-13, as Jose Constanza, and Eric Patterson each banged out four hits. The time of the game was 4:13, the second longest of the season. Game three will take place tomorrow at Regency Furniture Stadium. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M.
