Slugfest Goes to Braves 17-8

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Lexington Legends 17-8 Friday night before 2,669 fans at State Mutual Stadium..

Rome's offense was on fire as eight of the nine starters had hits and five players had multi-hits. Lexington scored one run in the first, but Rome would answer quickly with two of their own in the bottom of the inning for the 2-1 score. In the second, Rome batted around and would plate six runners highlighted by a two RBI double by Brandon Drury, RBI doubles by Tony Mueller and Hefflinger, an RBI single from William Beckwith and a sacrifice fly RBI by Chase Anselment. The Legends added a run in the third but Rome answered with another score in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Beckwith for the 9-2 advantage. Lexington would chip away with two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and a single run in the eighth to close to a 9-6 score. The Rome bats came alive again in the bottom of the eighth scoring eight runs. Hefflinger (10) cracked a three run homer to left, Anselment had a two RBI double, and Fernando De Los Santos added a two run double to highlight the scoring.

Robby Hefflinger went 4-5 with a double, a home run, and five RBI while Tony Mueller went 4-5 with a double and one RBI in the game. The Braves chalked up 18 hits en route to their fifth straight win.

After a high scoring game that saw nine pitchers and 25 total runs, Wilson Rivera (2-0) got the win in relief for Rome while David Peterson collected his seventh save of the season. Lexington's starter, Jonas Dufek (6-3), was charged with the loss.
