Shorebirds Fall to Suns 5-1 in Game Two

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (20-34) managed just two hits and lost 5-1 to the Hagerstown Suns on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds have dropped three straight games.

Hagerstown sprinted on the board in the first inning. Shorebirds starter Juan Guzman walked the first two batters of the game. Then, Cutter Dykstra hit a three run homer to left field to put the Suns in front 3-0.

The Shorebirds responded in the bottom of the first. Glynn Davis led off with a single to right field. He moved to second on a walk drawn by Sammie Starr. After a double steal advanced Davis to third, Mikey Planeta lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to pull the Shorebirds within two.

The Shorebirds did not score the rest of the night.

The Suns added a run in the ninth inning, aided by three errors. Adrian Nieto singled with two outs. He reached second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a low throw into the outfield by Michael Ohlman. Nieto scored on a misplayed grounder to third by Dudley Leonora.

Hagerstown pitching retired the final 14 batters of the game.

Guzman battled through 5.2 innings and picked up the loss. He did not allow any runs in the third, fourth or fifth innings.

Alex Schmarzo entered with two outs in the sixth inning and did not allow a run over 2.1 innings. The right-hander yielded just two hits.

Bobby Wilkins gave up an unearned run in the ninth inning.

Hagerstown starter Wirkin Estevez earned the win over five strong inning. He allowed two hits and one run.

The Shorebirds and Suns play game three of the series on Saturday, August 18 at 7:05pm. RHP Miguel Chalas is the scheduled starter.
