Hawkins Comes up with Another Game-Winner

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - For the second straight night, Courtney Hawkins came up with the game-winning hit with two outs in extra innings. Hawkins, the White Sox first round pick this June, legged out an infield single to score Michael Marjama from third base in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Kannapolis Intimidators a 7-6 win over the West Virginia Power on Friday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

Hawkins finished his career night a double shy of the cycle, going 3- for-6 with a home run, a two-run go-ahead triple in the fifth inning, and his second game-winning hit in as many days. On Thursday, he drove in his first run with Kannapolis on a two-out single in the bottom of the 13th to beat the Power.

After West Virginia tied the game, 4-4, in the eight inning to eventually force extra innings, Eric Avila launched a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Power a 6-4 lead.

Kannapolis tied the game on a Mark Haddow two-run blast in the bottom of the 10th. Haddow finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Matt Talley (1-0) retired all five batters he faced in relief to earn the win for Kannapolis while Power reliever Nathan Kilcrease (0-2) gave up three runs on five hits over 2 and 2/3 innings in a losing effort.

West Virginia struck first when Dan Gamache's two-run single in the third inning for a 2-0 lead.
