Wichita Wind Surge News Release
WICHITA, Kan.-The Wichita Wind Surge lost their second straight game to the Arkansas Travelers 5-1 in front of a raucous crowd of 7,947 at Riverfront Stadium. The night saw the Wind Surge wearing Margaritaville-themed jerseys on Margaritaville Night at the ballpark.
The Travelers scored three unanswered runs through the opening three innings. A run-scoring groundout came first in the top of the second off Wind Surge starter Nick Wittgren, followed by an Alberto Rodriguez two-RBI double to center field one frame later against Mike Paredes.
Aaron Sabato brought home Carson McCusker on a groundout of his own to second to cut the Arkansas lead to 3-1 after four innings were in the books.
Harry Ford gave the Travelers their second two-run double of the night to the wall in left-center and put the eventual 5-1 final score on the board off of Aaron Rozek in the top of the sixth. The final 10 Wichita batters were retired.
Wittgren fell to 1-1 on the season with his first loss, surrendering an earned run on three hits opposite one strikeout in two innings as the opener of a bullpen game. Rozek did much of the heavy lifting, pitching the final five and one-third innings while giving up two earned runs on four hits and a walk while matching Wittgren with a punchout.
The Wind Surge play Arkansas with the series on the line tomorrow, Sunday, May 12. The first pitch from Riverfront Stadium with Pre-Game Catch on the Field and Post-Game Kids Run the Bases is at 1:05 PM.
