Sloppy Play Leads to Sweep

JOLIET, ILLINOIS. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, took an early lead for the third time in the series but Joliet came storming back to take the lead. The Crushers would tie things up in the third inning but a late mistake and a big home run helped key a 6-4 Joliet sweep.

Lake Erie got some early offense against Slammers starter Scot Hoffman. A couple of walks to begin the game, helped set up RBI singles by Kewby Meyer and Cody Lenahan.

With a 2-0 lead, Alex Romero went to the mound to begin his ninth start of the season. The Joliet offense jumped on Romero early. They tallied five hits in the first inning including a two-run home run from Justin Garcia. Joliet also took advantage on an error by third baseman Joel McKeithan. By the time the inning was over, Joliet had a 4-2 lead.

The Crushers evened the game in the third inning. Lenahan produced his second RBI single of the game and McKeithan tied the game on a fielder's choice. Lenahan finished 4-4 with four singles in the game. He is now hitting a team-high .337 on the year.

Romero finished with 6.2 innings while allowing four runs on seven hits. Hoffman only lasted three innings for Joliet. Slammers reliever Corey Kimber worked 4.1 scoreless out of the bullpen for Joliet.

The game remained tied up until the eighth inning when the Crushers committed their third error of the game. With one out, RJ Thompson reached on an error by Dustin Williams. Later in the inning with two outs Travis Bolin hit a two-run home run, giving Joliet a 6-4 lead.

The Crushers were unable to score in the ninth and that sealed the sweep. Lake Erie left seven men on base in the loss. It was also the first time this season, that Lake Erie has been swept on the road.

Max Biedrzycki (5-1) took the loss in relief. Isaac Sanchez (1-0) got the win for Joliet. The Crushers drop to 25-20 while the Slammers pull to 25-20 with the win. Lake Erie will begin a six game homestead on Tuesday when Evansville comes to town. Game one is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
