Florence Washes out CornBelters to Conclude Canseco Weekend

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters (19-23) wanted to put the final day of Jose Canseco weekend presented by the Town of Normal behind them as they lost 13-2 to the Florence Freedom on Sunday night.

Normal scored their lone two runs in the seventh. Andrew Godbold smashed a solo shot to put the CornBelters on the board for his sixth home run of the season. The Frontier League veteran has now homered in the last five straight series. Cody Erickson brought the final run in with a single the other way to score Tony Holton who reached on an error.

Jose Canseco leadoff for the CornBelters in the second day in a row. The Cuban native struck out again and ended the weekend 0-3.

The series finale was delayed an hour due to thunderstorms. Normal sent David Perez to pitch the rubber match and in his second start this season he was pulled in the second inning. The righty gave up three runs in the first and then he committed a throwing error that lead to Florence putting up seven more runs to take a 10-0 lead. Trevor Simms came in and finished the second along with completing the third while giving up one run.

Both Tyler Frohwirth and Nick Bozman made their second straight appearance and held the Freedom scoreless for two innings each. Kuehl McEachern finished off the final two innings with Florence adding three more runs off the righty.

The CornBelters are off tomorrow then take a trip up to the Joliet Slammers for a three-game series with first pitch for game one set at 7:05 p.m.
