Sliders Let Four Run Lead Slip Away

The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti had an early lead but lost it in late innings 5-4 to the Gateway Grizzlies. The Sliders had a 4-0 advantage in the top of the sixth, but the bullpen couldn't hold on.

Mike Penn started the game not allowing a run until the bottom of the sixth inning. He only allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Zack Pace leadoff the game with a home run over the right-centerfield wall. Midwest added two more runs when Robbie Knapp hit a single driving in Roberto Mena, and Clay McCord.

Joash Brodin hit his third bomb in two games in the sixth inning, putting the Sliders ahead 4-0.

Gateway scored five straight unanswered runs to win the game 5-4. They scored one run in each the sixth, and seventh. P.J. Zocchi came on to pitch in the eight allowing three runs to give the Grizzlies the lead, and suffered the loss.

Joe Agreste had the knock out punch when he hit a triple down the left field line, scoring two runs to tie the game. Agreste then scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly.

Thursday the Sliders head home to EMU's Oestrike Stadium to host the Kalamazoo Kings. The Sliders are seven games behind first place Kalamazoo, and 3 ½ games behind second place. Thursday's game will begin at 7:05 p.m.
