
Wild Things Take Both Games of Double Header

Marion, IL - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, bested the Southern Illinois Miners in both games of a double header at Rent One Park Wednesday night. Washington outscored Southern Illinois 3-1 in game one, and the Wild Things won game two by a score of 8-2.
In game one Southern Illinois got on the board in the first inning when Tony Roth scored on a Joey Metropoulos RBI double, but that would be the Miners' only run.
Michael Parker knocked in Chris Sidick with a single to tie the score in the third. Washington took the lead in the fifth. After Brett Grandstrand advanced to first base when he was hit by a pitch, and Sidick legged out a bunt to reach first, Phil Laurent doubled to center field, plating both base runners.
LHP A.J. Jenkins (1-0) got the win in his debut as a Wild Things' pitcher, allowing one run on three hits, striking out six and walking one. Justin Edwards pitched an inning in relief and Nick Peterson earned his eighth save of the season.
In game two The Wild Things took advantage of rookie pitcher Justin Moring, who was making his professional debut. Moring allowed four runs on three hits, walking three and hitting a batsman during his one inning on the hill. The Miners ultimately used five pitchers in the game.
In the third inning Washington added to their lead when Parker drove in Chris Raniere and Kris Rochelle and a Phil Laurent RBI plated Parker
The Miners scored a run in the third (Jereme Milons RBI) and a run in the fourth (Joey Metropoulos solo HR).
Jacob Dempsey answered in the fifth inning, driving Parker in and giving the Wild Things a six run advantage.
RHP Andy Schindling (3-0) got the victory for Washington allowing two (one earned) runs on four hits, striking out five, walking two, and hitting a batsman. Michael Lucas pitched two innings in relief.
The Wild Things travel back to Washington to host the Traverse City Beach Bums Thursday night when the game is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. (EDT). Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55 p.m. Tickets for all six games of the homestand are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
