Lake Erie Crushers News Release

O'Fallon, MO - The Lake Erie Crushers found themselves down 8-1 after four innings to the River City Rascals on Wednesday night. Lake Erie battled back with a spirited rally but fell just short as they were defeated 8-7 at T. R. Hughes Ballpark. The loss ends the Crushers four game winning streak.

River City broke open a 1-1 tie in the third with a six run inning off of Crushers starter Jorge Charry. Jojo Batten, Scott Robinson, and Chris Colton all produced run-scoring hits for the Rascals. River City added a run off of Charry in the fourth to open up an 8-1 advantage.

But the Crushers fought back slowly with two runs in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice RBI by Drew Saylor and an error on River City that scored Kylee Hash. Lake Erie scored three more runs in the eighth inning as Saylor hit an RBI single, and then the Crushers added two more runs after a single by Tim Binkoski and an error by River City left fielder Chad Maddox.

Then in the ninth inning, the Crushers went to work against River City closer Jason Lowey as Wayne Bond led off with a double, Jodam Rivera added a bunt single, and then Saylor hit a fielder's choice RBI to bring Lake Erie within one. But Lowey got Andrew Davis to ground out to end the game.

Charry would take the loss for the Crushers as he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in five innings. Josh Lowey worked seven strong innings for his fourth win of the season and Jason Lowey picked up his 13th save of the season.

The Crushers finish up their swing through St. Louis with a 4-2 record against Gateway and River City. They'll return home to All Pro Freight Stadium to open a three game series with the Florence Freedom on Thursday night at 7:05 P.M.
