Slammers Shut out by Windy City 3-0 on Sunday

Crestwood, IL The Joliet Slammers (38-52) were blanked by Windy City (39-51) 3-0 to close out the three game series.

Thunderbolts starter Dyllon Nuernberg turned in an outstanding performance in earning the win. He went 8 innings and allowed no runs on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks. He got out of a few early jams and retired ten straight at one point. Nuernberg has now thrown 15 straight scoreless innings after coming off the injured list. Spencer Medick (1-4) took the loss in a quality start. He allowed three runs on 8 hits with three strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Tommy Nance earned the save for Windy City with a perfect 9th.

Alex Chittenden's RBI double was the big hit for the Thunderbolts. They also picked up runs on a sacrifice fly and RBI grounder. Joliet now opens a three game road series on Tuesday with Lake Erie. The Slammers return home on Friday, Sept. 4th at 7:05pm to open the season-ending three game series vs. Rockford. The opener will be a Fireworks Friday and will be Halloween as well. Dress up and receive a drink voucher. Saturday at 6:05pm will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Sunday at 5:05pm closes out the regular season with Fan Appreciation Night.
