Aviators Drop Game 3
August 30, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford Aviators News Release
LOVES PARK- The Normal CornBelters completed the sweep of the Aviators Sunday at Aviators Stadium, scoring 6 times in the 9th to win 10-1. Dusty Robinson had 2 hits and an RBI for the Aviators.
David Diaz got the start for the home squad, surrendering 2 runs over 4 innings. The CornBelters got tallies off Aviator relief men in the 6th and 7th to open up a 4-0 lead.
Aviator bats were mostly held silent by righty CornBelter starter Jake Negrete. Negrete allowed just 1 hit through his first 6. The Aviators finally got to him in the 7th with an RBI single from Robinson that drove in Danny Stienstra to make it 4-1.
But the Belters really came to life with the bats in the 9th. They used 2 homers and an RBI double in that frame to reach double digit runs and pile up an insurmountable advantage.
Cameron Garfield, like Robinson, reached twice in the game for the Aviators, singling and drawing an HBP in his final 2 plate appearances.
The Aviators will take on the Frontier Greys on Tuesday. Start time is 7:05 at Aviators Stadium. Call 815-885-BALL or visit rockfordaviators.com for tickets. The series against the Greys will be the last home set of the year for the Aviators.
