San Jose, CA. The San Jose Skyrockets (4-2) rebounded from a loss by beating the Tijuana Dragons (1-5) 105-99 in an overtime game at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. Darius Pope's 17 points in the first half sparked the Skyrockets. Pope made five 3-pointers in the first half to keep San Jose in the game. He had 11 points in the first quarter energizing San Jose to a 25-22 advantage. The Dragons kept the game close throughout the first half and trailed 47-41 at halftime.

The third quarter saw San Jose build its largest lead, 71-47 with 7:25 to go, but Tijuana went on a 16-2 run with 1:55 remaining to tie the score at 63. However, the Skyrockets led 70-65 at the end of the period. In the fourth quarter, San Jose led again by 10 points, 83-73 but could not shake Tijuana as the game ended in regulation, 97-97.

The 3-minute overtime, one of many played in the exciting ABA and which features the very unusual 3-Ten-And Out overtime rule, saw the Skyrockets jump out to a 103-97 lead and hung on for the 105-99 victory. Anthony Lumpkin hit a crucial 10-foot jumper with 1:45 left in the game to seal the win.

Once again, the Skyrockets saw a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures. Pope added three more 3-pointers in the second half and scored 11 to finish the game with 28. He finished the game with eight 3-point shots. Center Tyler Newton chipped in 19 points and Lumpkin contributed 18.

Harold Arceneaux led the Dragons with 24 points and Gene Shipley scored all of his 23 on field goals. Rashelm Wright added 19 points. For more information, visit www.sjskyrockets.com or www.abalive.com.
