Minot Skyrockets News Release
Minot, ND - November 20, 2008 - The Minot Skyrockets announced today that Lee Scruggs will return for another season with the Skyrockets. Scruggs, a 6'11, 250 pound forward played with the Skyrockets last season, averaging 8.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and almost two blocks, playing less than twenty minutes per game.
Scruggs has played well at many levels over his career. While playing his college basketball at Georgetown, Scruggs was named to the Big East All-Tournament Team. From Georgetown, he went on to two seasons in the D-League, where he averaged 10.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks while playing with the Asheville Altitude. Scruggs 174 blocks is the fourth most all-time in the D-League. Ashevillle's assistant coach at the time was current Skyrockets head coach Michael Sanders.
Scruggs left the D-League after the 2003 season, and since then he has played everywhere from Venezuela to Finland to China, and he even made a brief stop up in Canada after the Skyrockets lost in the championship game last season. While Scruggs was with the Edmonton Chill in the IBL, he averaged 17.6 points and 9.7 rebounds.
"Lee is a player that I've known since I coached him in the D-League," Skyrockets Head Coach Michael Sanders said. "He's an excellent shot blocker. He can get up and down the court very well and has an excellent 3-point shot for a big man."
