Ask The CEO
December 9, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from Ron W, San Francisco: "I haven't heard too much about the San Francisco Pilots. Are they still playing in the league?"
Answer: Ron. Thanks for the email. I am glad you asked the question as we were going to be making an announcement about the situation in San Francisco. Yes, the San Francisco Pilots are still in the league. As you know, their home venue, Kezar Arena, was closed for several weeks for repairs and SF was looking for an alternative venue. Concurrently, the team owner, Parimal Rohit, was in a serious car accident on Monday morning suffering leg and back injuries and was hospitalized. Because of these two circumstances, Parimal (who is recovering) asked the league for a two to three week hiatus and to reschedule any missed December games into January, February, and March. The ABA was most certainly eager to oblige as Parimal's health is the most important issue. All of the west coast ABA teams have rallied around Parimal and schedule changes are being made until he is ready to resume play. We are extremely happy that his injuries are short-term and that he will have a full recovery. We have had many emails from the Bay Area relating to the team and are pleased that there is such great interest and we hope that you will support the team upon its resumption of play. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
